Category 1 Hurricanes
Learn to be on Swim Team & Developmental Program:
This is a developmental team designed to prepare 4-6 year old children for swim team in future years.
Category 1 Hurricane program is designed for children who are comfortable with the water and are ready to learn the basics of swimming such as freestyle and backstroke.
The goal by the end of the season is that Category 1 Hurricanes will be able to swim a lap by themselves.
All Category 1 Hurricanes will have until the end of the 1st week to withdraw or transition into the regular swim team if needed.
Details:
1.Must be water comfortable to participate
2.Must be the ages of 4-6 as of June 1
3.Homestead Coaches will run in water practices
4.Practices will be offered daily in the summer morning session
Important Dates:
1.May 11th & 12th: Swimmer Try Outs and Category 1 evaluation
2.May 26th- first day of practice
3.June 30th: Star Meet and final showcase
Program goals
- Introduce a team environment: Swimmers learn to participate in a structured, group setting and build camaraderie with teammates.
- Build endurance and stamina: Swimmers progress a safe beginner with potential to join swim team in current season or seasons thereafter.
- Refine stroke technique: Coaches are IN WATER at all practices to provide personalized one on one attention with a group lesson feel. Developing basic swimming techniques on freestyle and backstroke
- Teach competitive skills: Swimmers learn about competitive strokes such as freestyle and backstroke, turns, starts, streamlines and finishes.
- Provide low-pressure competition: Swimmers will be invited to join one or two of our Tuesday night Star meets to showcase their skills. Coaches will be available to swim with them “in water”.
Category 1 Hurricane Participants are part of the Homestead Swim Team and are invited to participate in ALL Homestead Hurricanes social events and parties.
