Code of Conduct
Reminder: During registration you agreed to the Code of Conduct which consisted of:
Hurricanes are respectful, prepared and healthy athletes who practice good sportsmanship in a safe and fun environment.
We will be respectful and courteous toward our teammates and their families, coaches, officials and competitors. We will be respectful of equipment, supplies and pool facilities, both at home and at away pools.
We will arrive at practice and competitions with required equipment and ready to focus. We will be prepared to participate, both mentally and physically and will put forth our best effort.
We will be healthy athletes by eating nutritiously, staying properly hydrated and rested. The use of drugs, alcohol or tobacco will not be tolerated in our sports environment.
We will be good sports and excellent ambassadors of our team. We will place the emotional and physical well-being of our team members ahead of any personal desire to win. We will not engage in disrespectful conduct of any sort including profanity, offensive remarks, taunting, boastful celebrations or other actions that demean individuals or our sport.
We will practice safety in and around the pool area and surrounding facilities. We will follow all posted rules at our own pool and at those we visit. Safety violations that will not be tolerated include diving without permission, dunking, running on the deck, pushing teammates into the pool, or disruptive behavior. There is absolutely NO DIVING in the shallow end of the pool and FINS may only be worn in the pool (NOT on the deck).
We will do our best to make participation on the Hurricane team a fun experience for all. We will be encouraging, positive and supportive of our teammates, our families and our staff and enjoy ourselves in the process!
Parent Code of Conduct
The Rocky Mountain Swim League (RMSL) expects all swim parents to abide by the following Code of Conduct. At all RMSL meets parents should:
1. Display the characteristics referred to in the RMSL Bylaws – courtesy, good will and sportsmanship.
2. Demonstrate good sportsmanship by conducting yourself in a manner that earns the respect of your child, other swimmers, coaches, officials and other parents.
3. Support the swimmers, coaches, officials and other parents with positive communication and actions.
4. Show respect for the meet facilities and follow the rules of the pool to which you have been invited.
5. Maintain self control at all times. Allow swimmers to swim, coaches to coach, officials to officiate and parents to parent.
6. Respect the meet officials and their authority even if you don’t agree with a decision. As stated in the RMSL Bylaws, protests may only be made by a team parent representative to the Referee.
7. Understand that criticizing, name calling, use of abusive language or gestures directed toward an official, coach, participating swimmer or other parent will not be permitted or tolerated.
8. Understand that such behavior may result in being asked to leave the pool for the duration of the meet, and that repeat violations may result in a multiple meet or full season suspension.
At all meets parents should enjoy the wonderful spirit and tradition that is the Rocky Mountain Swim League.
Please read the Homestead Hurricanes Bylaws for further information about the responsibilities and expectations for team participants.
Volunteer Requirement: Each Family is required to volunteer 4 points for every registered swimmer to a maximum of 8 points during the season. If you do not sign up for a volunteer slot, one will be assigned to you. If you cannot complete your volunteer assignment, you are responsible for finding a replacement. If your child is swimming in prelims and/or finals, you will be required to do one extra volunteer shift, which can be added on at that time. Thank you for your help!
We have read and understand the requirements of the Hurricane Code of Conduct. We understand that violation of this code will result in re-evaluation of team membership, with a possible consequence of suspension from practice and competitions or dismissal from the team. We realize that good sportsmanship, fair play and respect will benefit all of us involved.
